MPS Paving Systems have joined forces with Erebus Motorsport to protect our frontline healthcare workers during this Covid-19 pandemic. Every day on the news Australians hear about further shortages of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) equipment for health care workers across the globe as Covid-19 tears through hospitals worldwide. With this in mind, Erebus Motorsport launched Erebus Medical and began working with their partners and sponsors, like MPS Paving Systems , to create various kinds of PPE that could soon be needed as cases continue to rise in Australia. MPS have repurposed their waterjet cutter – normally used to cut decorative road marking plastics – to create E-Shields, face masks that can be worn by health care workers. After the waterjet cutter has cut out the mask shape with holes for straps, the masks are sent to Erebus where they attach straps and a foam forehead band. These masks are then donated to hospitals across the country. “We have been cutting these masks for 8 days and have already sent 5500 over to Erebus to complete and distribute,” says MPS Managing Director Wayne Morgan. “We have also begun experimenting with different designs for the face masks as well as disposable plastic glasses that can be worn with cloth masks.” In many countries there have been stories about health care workers having to reuse PPE, things like disposable gloves and cloth masks, and this puts them at a high risk of contracting the very disease they are trying to save people from. “We have seen the devastation overseas and heard the pleas of doctors, nurses and other health professionals facing Covid-19 without any protection. We want to prevent that happening in Australia and protect our health care workers in any way we can,” says Wayne. The masks will be donated to hospitals and healthcare facilities across Australia.
